The Deficiency in Gold's Portability

Gold is physical. It's heavy. It's hard to move across space. If you're going to have a globalizing society, doesn't really work like what we're going to send treasure chests of gold around to each other for every transaction we need to make. So humans being human, what do we do? We use our ingenuity and say, hey, why don't we just put all this gold in one place one odian? The custodian will then issue these tokens that we can trade, currency units basically that are as good as gold. Because indeed, you can take a currency unit to the custodian at any time and redeem it for gold. That model works. But
