Part of it comes from mike jones's father dying during the writing of this. He was flying back and forth from los angeles to texas, where his dad was living. And he was making these trips, and then on one of them, his father basically died in his arms. The take away is that you canit. It is dto have a goal. It is good to have a purpose and work towards it. But you can't let that become an obsession. I think that story that dorothea will tell about wanting to find other fish being like "This is water"  I'm not supposed to have a job? Am, yes.
