Marshall McLuhan is one of the most famous media theorists because he basically started the field. If we want to understand our tools, theories, discursive life, or even consciousness itself, then we have to understand media... because as McLuhan argues, the medium IS the message. What characterizes us now in the age of the internet? The internet and the plurality of new media has added dimensions to the human condition. We are joined for Marshal McLuhan's birthday by his grandson, Andrew McLuhan. Andrew is putting his father and his frandfather's legacy into practice through the McLuhan institute. I look forward to talking about how technology shapes our understanding, and beginning the long journey of thinking with the McLuhans as we move forward into increasingly complex times.
