The Effects of Dog Poop on the Environment

A single dog poop contains tens of millions of fecal coliform bacteria. The bacteria can cause intestinal illnesses and kidney problems in people, especially if they're swimming outside after a storm. When it rains, all that poop along with the bacteria gets washed into local streams and lakes. It's not just algae blooms. Pet waste and fertilizer do contribute to more growth of bacteria and algae in the water.
