Social Capital Is the Thing That Keeps You in Poverty
In Ireland to become a psychologist you need to do a psychology degree. Most people have to work for free as assistant psychologist in voluntary roles so that they can get accepted into a doctorate program. The only way you will get that work is if you know somebody who uses psychologists who will let you come and work with them. That's socially capital. People can't see the value of it because there isn't the dollar sign on it but that's the thing that keeps you in poverty. They're the bootstraps we want people to pull up but they don't exist.
