The Importance of Emotion in Voting
Walter Lippmann thought that democracy was more or less impossible in its current form. He later retreated from this latest argument to a degree but his idea remains massively influential and not too unfamiliar historically when we consider the past governments of earlier civilizations. The average voter doesn't know much but is instead ruled by emotion and is prone to impulsive irrational decisions now irrational here would mean voter decisions are actually working against the voters self-interest.
