Are We Going to Slink Back and Just Enjoy It?
In a lot of the discourse on post work, a some forms of basic income and so on, one of the kind of points it always comes down to is how we believe humans will behave in those conditions. Would giving people money do that? Why not? Because the thing is, people would have to use them. And if we treat it as a pure problem of individual purchasing power, we completely miss what's actually necessary to give people those opportunities. You don't eat money. It's other people. Those social configurations can continue to be sources of power and oppression no matter how much money each individual person has.
