During the recording of Piper at the Gates of Dawn, the group continued playing live. They played to audiences who seemed unimpressed or actively hostile. The 14-hour Technical Adream is now largely regarded as the pivotal moment in the development of the UK counterculture. But even at the time some participants noted that there seemed to be a rift developing between the performers and audience.
