Nell Gwyn's Performance in Restoration
Gwyn excels at the so-called Britches role, where actresses playing female characters cross-dressed for part of the play as a young man. I wonder if she was a bit of an improviser. It's much funnier when a woman does some sort of impersonation of a male character. Men could just breathe in and go and see the famous actress they'd spent two hours ochreling.
