The Role of Resistance in Science Fiction
I think science fiction has often imagined difference, but what it's done at its worst is it's pretended that it's foretelling it. Think of the foundation novels and this idea that like the protagonist is someone who's foreseen the next 3,000 years. And I think that far fewer science fiction writers now say shit like, oh, you know, you should talk to us because we know the future. We live in the future. Now it's more like, hey, we write parables about today because we don't know shit about the future because nobody knows shit about theFuture.
