The Last Speech of Abraham Lincoln
On April 14, 1865, Abraham Lincoln was watching a play at Ford's Theatre in D.C. There he became one of the last casualties of the war. John Wilkes Booth slipped into the President's box and pointed a pistol at the back of Lincoln's head. After lying unconscious all night, Lincoln died the following morning. In most southern states, black men and women were celebrating their newfound freedom.
