Calcium Channel Blocker Overdose - Is There a Difference?
The presentation can be slightly variable depending on the type of calcium channel blocker ingested. In theory varapamil and deltiazem are sort of postulated as the potentially most concerning in overdose because they act on both the myocardium and the vascular smooth muscle. The dihydropyridine, so things like amlodopene and phylodopene or niphetopene tend to be a little bit more specific just to the vasculature. So theoretically what you might see with the diHydropyridine overdose is that you might see this severe hypotension but actually with a reflex tachycardia due to decreased cardiac filling.
