Can You Beat Maria World in 12 Levels?

As a kid, i literally didn't understand why anyone would play the middle levels. Just go to bowser it. Yet you can beat maria world in 12, 12 levels, apparently. And some bothye's areoptional without your giving you wholly more content. I was trying to like trace that backwards of where that changed. Like early i don't elike peas one games like spiro the dragon and stuff,. Even those who are about kind of like collect x amount of a thing. A whereas marios doesn't realy ever feel like it's about that. So i don't know where that were, that switch happened.
