The Body Collectors in Florence
Di Capus de Farni recounts how Florentines carried the bodies of the dead to burial on a daily basis. Body collectors, mostly from the lower social ranks, realize there is money to be made in this grim and dangerous work. Living in such close proximity to others, monasteries and nunneries are perfect breeding grounds for the disease. Yet it is true to say that the poorest in society face particularly hard time during plague outbreak.
