The Disaster of Abafan
In total, almost 150 Abafan residents were killed by the spoil slide. 116 of those were children between the ages of 7 and 10 years old. More than 400 embalmers volunteered to assist with the cleaning and dressing of corpses. A mass funeral for 81 of the children took place on October 27.
