I think the simple popular colloquial term for it has been a weirdo. And I grew up with this. It was in the culture in the 1960s and 70s. The group thing identifies the non-grouper and bullies them, singles them out. You are persecuted if you're the person who, for whatever reason, doesn't want to conform. That is a sort of a social dynamic, which is very deeply rooted.
