The Importance of Parental Memoirs in Overcoming Autism

The overcoming narrative that shows up in, in most of the parental memoirs is not necessarily about the child overcoming the disability. It's rather like the parent overcoming sort of their fears about what disability would mean for them. And so I want to maintain a skepticism about disability and childhood being used in that way where it becomes essentialized to who the child is and the parents self improvement.
