It's not absolutely clear in terms of fluids what these patients should get. Consider normal saline as your initial fluid resuscitation, crystalloid of choice. In some centers, they do recommend albumin for patients with severe hepatic encephalopathy. Correct the assumed high ammonia levels and you'll be giving lactulose or peg or both. And finally, correct all the low stuff because often the K is low, often the sodium is low.
