LBJ gets to snag the coveted CBS affiliate slot for Austin, this from his San Antonio rivals by paying a personal visit to Bill Paley. By 1944, the station had gone from $2,600 a month in ad revenue to $13,500 a month with LBJ's help. Lady Bird Johnson again had appealed to quintuple the power of the broadcasting signal immediately approved by the FCC. The interesting part about this is that the station was making did not just include, you know, the local carpet cleaner or the local retailer. No, no, no, there were station, station ads being bought by US government contractors.
