Bob Murray and the Crandall Canyon Mine Co-Operation

Murray Energy Corporation and its subsidiaries owned at least 17 mines in Alabama, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia and Utah. The company produced more than 70 million tons of coal annually with sales totaling more than 800 million dollars a year. On August 6, 2007, researchers at the University of Utah recorded a seismic event that measured 3.9 on the Richter scale. Hours later, the Emery County Sheriff's Department was notified that there had been a collapse inside the Crandall Canyon mine.
