The Unassuming Pudding Lane
Pudding lane is a medieval word for awful or organ meat, which was carted down from butchers of East cheap to be dumped in the Thames nearby. The narrow street is home to tailors, taverns, fishmongers and other traders, but the majority are butcher's shops. Halfway up stands the bakery of Thomas Farina, who holds a contract to supply baked goods to the Royal Navy - fueling the ongoing war with the Dutch.
