Tiberius was accused of murdering his adopted son, Germanicus. He granted the charges against Piso because he didn't want to stand in the way of justice. The Senate heard testimony that something fishy had gone on and Tiberius refused to back down. This would be the beginning of a chasm that would open up between the people of Rome and their emperor.
