The Need for Artificial Intelligence

There's a tension between the need to regulate and protect citizens from the malfeasance of corporations that are rolling this stuff out. And so you don't really want to stifle innovation and the capacity to realize logarithmic gains in our efficiency with which we conduct a lot of our societal business. If you don't actively prevent roboticists from developing maximally human-like social robots, then all you're going to be doing is pounding sand for next couple of decades.
