I think we all have a problem gay people as writers Irish people and perhaps Jewish people in trying to write a novel about say our own world. What I'm watching now is you navigating this territory that says Philip Roth has dealt with the whole business of the sort of loser Jewish type smart but who's like just can't assimilate. And they do I mean they do genuine insult him but he's ready for it. But also then the real problems going to be his parents and his daughter. The generation above and the generation below are going to cause him immense trouble. He doesn't know, right? It's just a way to clear my throat and then convince myself I might know. Well
