The History of Summer Camps

There were a hundred summer camps in 1900 and a thousand in 1910. It's the intense fear and anxiety about industrialization which was accelerating at that time. After World War I and especially after World War II it becomes like so many other things a mass phenomenon. The first African American sleep weight camp is established in 1921. Interlochen the music camp isestablished in 1928. Around the same time different ethnic groups and religious groups are establishing their own sort of niche camps for their own groups of people.
