The Importance of Close Follow-Up in Oncology Proctectomy

One in four patients will experience a local regrowth and most of them are salvageable when discovered early. In our local experience, the most accurate factor for diagnosis of local recurring was in fact digital rectal exam. We believe organ preservation strategy should be offered to those patients where the initial tumor is sleep palpable on physical exam. It is also those patients that will experience the most impact on their quality of life following oncology proctectomy. All expert centers are now optimizing strategies to identify patient with clinical complete response.
