In some cases, prior work suggests that it may not actually be a good idea to reverse items if it decreases the internal consistency of the scale. People with certain personality traits respond to these surveys and do studies very differently. It's always like a screw you effect where people are just going to say they hate it no matter what. There's going to be people having experimental expectancy effect where they're just going to guess what you want and then put that right.
