In 1772, a court ruled that slaves in britain did not have to follow the law wherever they were born. This was seen as an opportunity for abolitionists to attack America's slavery policy. The American slave society immediately picked up on this hypocrisy and protested against it. In 18th century, Americans had largest number of slaves in western hemisphere.
