Augustine's Return to the House of the Father

Babylon is the opposite of Jerusalem. It means for Augustine any kind of a social order in which human beings are devoted to living their life, but God being a mere instrument for what they can enjoy on this earth. That's Babylon. And who will teach me how to return to the house of the father, by which he means mystical Jerusalem, rather than Babylon? A theme that gets really well developed in the city of God, 20 years later. He makes it clear that he's born in Babylon, fugast, new medium, but it's Babylon.
