The History of the Art Institute
It wasn't until 1970 that the Art Institute had its new official owner. John Johns, an unfortunate but hilarious name, was named the school's president in 1970. The EDMC purchased two more schools from the Ray College of Design for just over $1 million and a year later, they bought the New York Restaurant School for almost $10 million. They even started offering certificate programs for legal healthcare specialists and administrative assistants in Atlanta,. And the Art Institutes in Minnesota and LA opened up in 1997.
