The History of Satellites and Space Weapons - Long Live Debris

There wasn't really much consciousness at the time about the environmental effects of doing these kinds of tests. It's not until the 1980s that you start to see more awareness about the fact that this debris could stay in orbit for a long time. So other than radiation propagating into space and considering what the consequences of that could be for satellite operations, long live debris is not really a part of the senior level space policy or more broadly national security policy discussions going on at this time.
