The Crippling Effect of Alcohol on the Liver
Alcoholic hepatitis is a diagnosis that still terribly, you know, gives me palpitations when I meet a patient in the OP even now. My whole research work is on studying new treatment options for patients with alcoholic hepatitis because one, we don't have any approved treatments for this condition. And two, this condition is associated with very high rates of death, especially in young men. But thankfully, there are a lot of new areas of research going on in this field, including mine, where we look at modulating the intestinal bacteria through stool transplants to improve outcomes.
