The King Sent an Answer to Reham, the Commander, and Shimshai, the Scribe, and the Rest of Their Associates
King artixerxes sent a letter to the commander and scribe of Samaria, warning them not to rebuildJerusalem. The king responded by making all work on the temple stop until he had made a decree about it. He also ordered that any jews living in samaria should be driven from the city as they would no longer pay tribute or custom. Artixerxes was aware there were other groups who wanted to undermine his plans for the project.
