Meghan Murphy is a freelance writer and journalist, as well as the of founder Feminist Current and host of The Same Drugs podcast. Meghan was thrust in to the spotlight after getting kicked off Twitter in 2018 for using male pronouns to describe a man. Her work addresses a wide range of topics including free speech, pop culture, politics, and various underrepresented issues.
In this episode Meghan and I get into the obstacles of not fitting in to the confines of the modern feminist collective and ‘wave feminism,’ taking up the task of combating insular conversations, and weighing the financial and social risks of speaking out. We also discuss some of the factors putting mainstream feminism in a tough spot as well as accepting some hard truths about men consuming women as an industry. Meghan also shares how she maintains her emotional hygiene to stay strong, centered, and even happy in order to sustainably continue her work.
