The Judgment of Ibn Taimiya

For Ibn Taimiya, any truly advantageous consideration is always to be found in the Quran and other literature from the prophetic time. Even some of his fellow Hanbalis scholars often found his judgments and methods arbitrary. But he was at least willing to engage in the juridical enterprise even if he refused to play by the normal rules. By contrast, the traditions of philosophical sufism, kalam, and philosophy earn nothing but scorn from him.
