Over time, you'd like to lift hard enough to where the stimulus was sufficient to cause the muscles to grow. It doesn't have to be a five rep set or a 12 rep set and a 20 rep set. Any of those rep ranges has to have sufficient load that you couldn't do 10 more reps. The stronger people live longer than if they're stronger than the people who train more.
