The Negative Effects of a Decentralized Voluntary System
Just because a process is voluntary and decentralized doesn't mean that it necessarily is adaptive and produces good results. An example from biology of a positive feedback loop that basically takes a random accident and amplifies it in a non-adaptive way is a sexual selection. If people start shunning simply because they don't want to be shunned for absence of shunning then the voluntary deciding to deplatform or not listen or shun not to associate can become a runaway phenomenon.
