The Two Pronged Attack on Jerusalem

The people of Judah were trying to get back on their feet after the destruction of Jerusalem. They faced a two-pronged attack that included physical intimidation, threats and weasily writing letters behind Cyrus' back. This communication didn't just go to Cyrus, but it went to all kinds of middle management types who no doubt got promoted above their ability level as is so often the case. So this is one of those places where understanding this undercurrent of resistance to the Jewish people getting back onto their feet will help us understand Esther better.
