Siddharth Kara's new book shows that there is a wide range of actors buying cobalt from the artisanal mines in Congo. He says we are all complicit about this and puts blame squarely at the electronics industry, which does not control their supply chains. The consumer at Walmart doesn't want to pay more than 99 cents for a shirt so they're not really interested in ethical supply chains because that would force the cost up dramatically.
