The Future of Medicine - Vaccines, Small Molecules and Genomic Medicine
I think there will always be acute diseases, pain and infection where small molecules are the right way to treat them. We shouldn't pretend that you can vaccinate away a throat infection or that you can, if I hit my thumb with a hammer, the best way is just a simple pain treatment. And then the third modality, I believe, is correcting the mutation that causes the disease. It's not three equal buckets at the moment. The bucket for genomic medicines is small because we need to start with diseases that are high benefit risk equation. So we'll go from monogenic significant diseases to monogenic less life threatening diseases. Then polygenic diseases, that's going to be more difficult
