The Importance of Education in Javier's Life

Javier felt like it was his duty to study, since his mother never had the chance. As a kid, Javier used his mother's situation to his advantage when he wanted to get out of doing homework and instead go outside and play. Like many people from the rural regions of Peru, Javier's parents belonged to a Quechuan community. They are part of a large and diverse set of Indian indigenous groups whose mother tongue is Quechua.
