The Importance of Open Government

The startup policy lab is about getting people together and creating an environment where policy can work. When I was chief information officer of City and County of San Francisco, we were one of the first cities in the world to open up our data. We took that and then moved that to the US government, and we use data.gov. And so I think it's that platform, if you will, where you have data that gets shared, and then you have the intelligence that brings it all together - those are straightforward startup principles.
