The Significance of the Tomb Veneration Cult in Antiquity

During the time of jesus during the time of the apostles there was this cult of the veneration of saints and the tombs are mentioned. Even in matthew's gospel it mentions how after the resurrection of JESUS other prophets and holy men and women were resurrected and appeared in the city the tombs were opened. In a lot of these jewish ausuaries you would see an image of a menorah which scholars believe might have represented like a guiding light in the afterlife something like that.
