The Importance of Context in Law

In a sense it's a natural outgrowth of the sorts of work that's been going on in the philosophy of language for the last 20 or 30 years. I like to call it applied philosophy of language because that's really what it is, just applications of things that have become second nature to us. So this whole business about the way context actually affects meaning is a classic example of this. People mean very, very different things by the word context, for example.
