The Civil Rights Movement in the United States
The professional air traffic controller's organization, Pat Coe, was threatening to go on strike. They're one of the few unions who had backed Ronald in the election because many were veterans. It took 21 weeks to be trained to be an air traffic controller, so they thought this gave them power. On August 31, the union of 13,000 members struck. Reagan declared them in violation of the law and gave them 48 hours to return to work.
