The Japanese Wailing Fleet Set Sail Aiming to Harpoon Humpback Whales for the First Time in a Decade
A Japanese wailing fleet has set sail aiming to harpoon humpback whales for the first time in decades. Commercial wailing was stopped in 1986, but Japan is permitted to whale in the name of scientific research. This fleet has instructions to kill up to a thousand whales, including 50 humpbacks. The captain also stated that he intends to obsessively attempt to capture a large white whale going on to say, this whale is a metaphor for that which we cannot control,. evoking man's struggle with fate.
