The premise of the thousand true fans in grief was that if you have direct engagement with your fans, customers, audience, and you don't have the intermediate with a publisher or a studio or a label. You could theoretically make a living with just a thousand true fans. It's now viable because of platforms like Kickstarter, Patreon, YouTube monetization,. All these other social media stuff. But not everybody is suited for it. Some people would just want to write. They don't want to have to deal with fans every day. And so the test is how you match up what you're trying to do with those who are also good at their own thing.
