Land Grabging in Colombia and Other Global South Countries

Mining in Colombia has been historically focused on large coal mines along its northern coast and relatively small scale gold and emerald operations in the Andes. But following a 2016 peace deal between the government and the Marxist Leninist Guerrilla Group FARC, there is growing pressure from international mining companies to look for new minerals. The head of the Colombian National Mining Agency has stated outright that they're looking to become one of the top ranking copper producing countries in the world. This phenomenon has also triggered land grabbing in countries like Colombia and other global South countries.
