CHAPTER

The Future of Quantum Computing

Quantum cryptography depends upon manipulating individual photons, it suffers from a major limitation. The best existing quantum cryptographic systems use fiber optic cables and have a range of about 10 kilometers. This would suffice to provide, say, the financial district of the city with absolutely secure internal communications. To solve the problem of public key cryptography in general, say for global communications, further advances in quantum cryptography are required.
