The Great Palace of Diocletian

The great palace fulfilled Diocletian's aim of turning the emperors from the approachable princeps into the inaccessible dominance. From the emperor flowed all decisions and to him flowed all information and requests. Most senior officials and their families would move into the palace during their time in office. If you crossed the Augusteion to the Million and looked left, you would now see the imposing structure of the Hippodrome. Inlarged by Constantine, with as much splendor as he could, it was said to have room for 100,000 people.
